“I am so sorry about Lolita, I know her death has been very hard… I sometimes think that those of us who love our feathered & furry friends are both blessed because they make us so happy, but cursed when we have to say goodbye. I know Lolita was well loved, and if I were to come back as a bird I would certainly want to be loved by you. Love, Barbara Smith
“I am sad to hear of lolita's passing... I can hear her voice even here.... I will go straight-away to the temple and light incense and candles in her honor. she gave so much joy to so many.... we will all miss her. I send deep comfort and love, prayers from thailand, Nitza”
Our little Lolita passed away on Saturday September 4th…
Lolita’s long life was all about Joy…
she was sheer pleasure for all that had the wonderful good fortune to work side by side with her. And as for all the millions of guests that came to see her in the Bird Show…. it is nearly impossible for them to say her name without saying it as she did, “Lo-LEE-Ta!”
She is thought to have been nearly 50 years old and was an original member of the Park’s Free Flight Bird Show when it began in 1976. Her childlike qualities, infectious laughter, and sweet little song will be missed by all she touched.
“She was without a doubt our favorite co-worker,” says Kent Mahaffey, “she loved everybody and everyone loved her, she was easy to get along with and took far fewer sick days than anyone; she never missed a cue or a show”.
Our sincere thanks go out to the Park Veterinary staff, for the loving care they gave to her and their persistent efforts to determine her illness and keep her comfortable to the end.
It is the joy that she shared with millions that we will remember, and that will make us smile.
There is no better way to share a life.
