“Free Flight Bird Show” at San Diego Wild Animal Park takes Wing; Embarks on New Educational Endeavor

Escondido, California – They have entertained 35 million guests at the San Diego Wild Animal Park for nearly three decades, but now Pancho, the singing parrot, Yo-Yo, the money-retrieving rose-breasted cockatoo, and the other stars of Berwick Production’s “Free Flight Bird Show” are taking wing and embarking on a new endeavor.

The company will be partnering with local nonprofit ECO-LIFE Foundation to help spread the word about important issues such as wildlife and environmental conservation. Berwick Productions will also be looking for different venues in which to showcase its talented collection of over 50 birds.

“We are very grateful to have been a part of the Wild Animal Park and the Zoological Society for the past 28 years,” said Kent Mahaffey, Bird Show Manager. “Now we have an opportunity to take the Bird Show in a new direction and focus our efforts on the issues that are truly important to us. Our goal is to educate people about the delicate balance between humans and nature and encourage them to be more aware of the world around them.”

The Bird Show plans to take an active role in many of ECO-LIFE’s community-based programs, collaborating with organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, Unified Port of San Diego, and more. The birds will be taken into local classrooms to communicate messages to students about sustainable ecosystems, environmental conservation, and the challenges facing many species of plants and animals.

“Partnering with Berwick Productions will allow us to connect with people in a much more impactful way and empower them with knowledge about what can be done to solve problems on a local level, whether it’s eco-tourism, fuel efficient vehicles or rainwater collection,” said Bill Toone, founding trustee of ECO-LIFE Foundation. “We are excited to join forces with the Bird Show and raise awareness about the interdependence of humans and nature on our planet.”
